Winter Tale - Russia x Reader

There was this time...

You were roaming around the frozen forests near your tiny house, your parents always told you shouldn't do it, and if you did, you would be a naughty girl and wouldn't receive gifts in the next holiday. You didn't care at all, you enjoyed the desolation the landscapes around the forest could give.

It was something that you would never forget.

After a while, you could swear you heard a voice sobbing quietly.

You were so curious at that time, you couldn't help yourself, so you followed the sound.

The closer you got, the louder you could hear a sad, heartbreaking sob.

Behind some bushes, after quite a walk, you saw a little boy, with sandy blond hair - almost white. He had a big scarf around his neck, and you could see his hands were wiping tears away.

You took a deep breath, and approached him slowly.

"Hey" You mumbled faintly, your voice sounded so low.

As you understood he hadn't noticed you, you got a little closer and raised your voice.

"Are you lost?"

He turned around so fast you thought he would fall of his improvised tree bench.

"Are you here to hurt me?" He mumbled, staring at you with a scared expression, almost trembling.

"What? Why would I do that." You looked at him puzzled, until you saw some bandages around his cheek. "Hey, are you okay?"

He remained quiet, just staring at you, with shiny purple eyes. You could tell he had been crying for a long time.

"My parents live not so far from here, we live near a sunflower field, it's really cool there." You said, trying to calm him down. "We play with our dog and I help dad with the garden sometimes, mom loves to make tea by the afternoon, they could help you if you're lost!"
You smiled cheerfully at him, waiting for some reaction, but he wouldn't answer you.

"Come on! Where is your home?"

"It's here." Much to your surprise, his voice was sweeter than you thought.

"Then where are your mom and dad?" You asked, once again smiling.

"It's  a long story, but... My two sisters live near." He mumbled, still afraid.

"Oh... Okay..." You looked around, awkwardly. "What's your name?"

"It's Ivan." He answered, a little more open.

"Then, Ivan, why were you crying?"

"Gilbert... And the others, they won't let me be... And... Not even a squirrel will be friends with me!" In the end of the sentence, his voice cracked as he started crying again.

You panicked. You had no idea what to do, but you weren't used to see people crying, and every time it happened, you felt a sudden urge to help them.

"My name is (Y/N)." You said. "I will be friends with you, is that okay, Ivan?"

He looked at you, his once afraid expression was now a surprised one. He looked extremely speechless, but then looked down to the ground.

"Okay then, (Y/N)..."

~~~~~~~
The next day you woke up determined, you were so happy you made someone happy! You couldn't imagine why would someone such a sweet person! The little boy you met was extremely sweet, and you wanted to help him, somehow.
Early in the morning, you went to the sunflower field near you tiny, provincial house. Your dad used to help the owners, taking care of the flowers sometimes. You went stealth mode and picked some sunflowers, putting it in a basket your mother made for you.
You got back home and hid your basket full of sunflowers, your parents wouldn't like that if they saw it. You had an amazing lunch and your mother made you a cake for the night time, but you took a slice of it and exited the house - since your parents were working, they didn't noticed a thing.
You walked happily in the same path as yesterday, so you could find the lonely boy again. As you approached the place you found him, you started looking around.
"Ivan!" You called, scanning the place with your eyes.
You walked a little further, and a little further...
~~~~~~~~~

"Ivan?!" You called, once again.

You knew for sure you were lost in that forest, but you would never admit it.

"What am I even doing!" You mumbled to yourself, sitting on the ground, putting a lock of your (H/C) hair behind your right ear, then crossing your arms. "I thought we were friends!"

As long as you finished your complaining, you heard footsteps, they seemed close, so you got up and started following the sound again, when you walked a bit further, you could see your new friend sitting on a rock.

You smiled when you saw him, and started walking faster.

"Iv-" Before you could reach him, a little albino boy started pushing his hair and bugging him, in a way that seemed hurtful.

You started running in his direction as fast as your tiny legs could be.

"WHO THE HECK ARE YOU?!" you screamed at the other boy. "LET GO OF HIM!"

Your heard the boy laugh, but he kept doing what he was doing. You took a leap of faith, and went for it - his hair. You started pushing it - and his body - away from your friend.

"WHAT THE HECK!" He screamed at you, pushing your hair too.

Ivan stood there speechless once again. As you let go of the other boy, he got up shouting at you, then ran away. You could see he was bruised in his arms, and you took some of his hair threads, but you were bruised as well, scratches around your arms and cheeks, and your hair was a mess.

"YEAH, THIS IS FRIENDSHIP POWER, YOU DON'T MESS WITH FRIENDSHIP POWER!" You shouted back at the boy who was still cussing at you.

The moment he was gone,  you took your basket with your slice of cake and sunflowers and got near Ivan.

"Who the heck was that boy?!" You asked, a tired expression in your eyes

"He was the Teut-- Gilbert." He answered you.

"Oh, I bet he's not going to mess with you anymore, and if he does, you can call me!" You said, feeling confident, all the days training fight with a pillow was worth it!

"Are you okay,  (Y/N)?" Ivan asked, looking worried.

"Yeah, it's just a tiny scratch." You mumbled, sitting on a rock near the one Ivan was on. "That little brat! So not cool what he did to you! Here, take this!"

You offered him the basket.

"What?"

"It's a gift! Because we're friends!" You smiled caringly at him.

He opened the basket and looked mesmerized, but also puzzled.

"A slice of cake! And... Sunflowers?"

"Sunflowers remind me of friendship! They look like tiny suns, with chocolate inside! Chocolate suns! That's just like friendship, right?!" You smiled, once again, laughing as you tried to describe the flower.

"I think so..." He smiled gently at you. "Thank you, (Y/N), you're very sweet and you didn't show your boobs!"

"What are boobs?" You looked at him, puzzled, you were sure your mother mentioned it once, but you forgot.

"Ah... Nevermind." He smiled once again. "I do enjoy sunflowers."

"I know right! They're so cool!"

You smiled at each other for some time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I met this funny girl! She saved me from Gilbert, she totally beated him up! That wasn't cool, but she saved me! She gave me cake and a strange kind of flower. Sunflowers! They're super cool! I think I love them! Tomorrow will be a lovely day, and I hope (Y/N) will help me being friends with other people!"
Ivan, now grown up and known for his creepy self and "kolkolkolkol~", was turning the pages of an old diary Lithuania accidentally found while cleaning his basement. It looked like he was telling an old fairy tale in those old pages.
"It's been a while since (Y/N) has come to play with me, I got beaten up by the others again, and I don't like sister's advice... I wonder what happened to (Y/N)? I enjoyed the sunflowers she brought me everyday..."
He frowned at the diary entry, it was really old. Then he continued.
"Today (Y/N) appeared, but she said she couldn't see me anymore. Their parents had forbidden her to come in the forest, or to see me. She said they say it's too dangerous for her here. She said she is so sorry, and she said she brought me only one sunflower, which was from her garden, because the sunflower field owner got her picking his flowers... She was crying that day... I don't want her to go... She's my only friend..."
He turned the page once more.
"I thought of trying and find her home, or the sunflower field, so we could see each other at least. I found it, but it was empty, I tried gathering information around, and the sunflower's owner said her family moved to another country... I miss (Y/N)..."
Once more...
"I went to the sunflower field... The owner asked me if I still was hoping for her to come back, when I nodded, he looked at the ground and said 'I'm sorry', when he---"
Ivan closed the book before being able to read the other entry, he put it on the shelf it was before. He warped his scarf around his neck and exited the big house, saying nothing to anyone. It was snowing, but he wasn't bothered by it. He kept walking down the streets, randomly.
"Sunflowers remind me of her..."
~~~~~~

His heart was filled with a nostalgic feeling, and yet, he had no one to talk to, even in the present days. He was too scary for everyone's sake, though he didn't mind being like that.
Once he turned around a street corner, he heard some voices. There was a flower shop he never payed attention to. The shop looked very neat and whatnot. Without a second thought, he entered the shop, and started walking around, looking at the flowers.

Sometime later, he found the sunflowers, on the desk. It seemed the owner had taken a special liking by them, they were the prettiest in the shop. He stood there, staring at the flowers, until someone approached him.

"Hey!" The voice brought him back from the depths of his thought. "Are you okay?"

He nodded, still staring at the flowers.

"They are beautiful, aren't they?" The voice mumbled, with a cheerful tone in it, though Ivan wasn't interested in listening. "I've always loved them! They are so bright! Like a chocolate sun! Hm... Have you been here before? You look kinda familiar..." After an awkward while, she continued "By the way, I'm the shop's owner, how can I help you?"

The person's words echoed in his mind, he still had his evil purple aura, but the person talking to him didn't seem to care about it - which was unusual. Just by standing there he thought he'd alone. He lifted his eyes from the flowers, to see a bright girl, with a sunflower in her hair, casual clothes and an aprom with some garden tools in its pocket.

"Excuse me?" He mumbled.

"How can I help you?" She repeated, believing he wasn't hearing her.

"Does a lot of people visit your shop?" He asked, looking around the desolate place.

She let out a brief laugh.

"Well, not really, but I don't care." She smiled.

He stared at her for some seconds, then at the sunflowers.

"I'll buy some of them, they do look beautiful."

She started gathering the most beautiful ones and arranging it for him, on one side of the desk, while he waited, she started a small talk.

"Thank you! Not everyone appreciates them. Even when they're the ones I most take care of!" She said, almost ending the bouquet.

"Hm, what was your name again?" He mumbled.

"Oh, my name is (Y/N)!" She smiled. "Thank you for purchasing at (Shop's Name), Sir...?"

"My name is Ivan."

"Sir Ivan!" She said, smiling. "You look like a Ivan, though! Your name fits you well! Have a nice day!"

"Is there some trouble if I come here tomorrow? To buy some more?" He asked, exiting the shop.

"It would be a pleasure!" She said, waving at him.

Ivan was walking down the streets, looking at the sunflowers he just purchased, and planning his next day of shopping flowers.

Since that day, Russia's house was always full of sunflowers, which made him smile a lot more than before, and even treat the Baltics a bit less harsh. It was like a enormous chocolate sun invaded his house, which brought light to his cold heart.

"Sunflowers remind me of..."

The sequel (if you want to read, or whatever) : Childhood Tale - Russia x Reader x Prussia

Plus its second part: Childhood Tale - Russia x Reader x Prussia - Pt 2

So, I really enjoy writing these, so I thought "Why not write some more?".

I really like to work with the character's "hidden side", but I hope he wasn't too ooc. If he was, I'm sorry, I tried. Onion Boy 6

It was inspired by the "Chibi!Russia!" Episode, so yeah...

And it was also inspired by a random video I found today. This one :  www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpd2B3…
